Love: this is a word with which we are all familiar. Love is not just a four-letter word found in the dictionary, or something that we celebrate on Valentine's Day. Love is something much bigger and deeper than this. We have all experienced love in one way or another--whether it is romantic love, the love of a family, or the love between friends--we have all encountered love. Love is something that we as humans crave. We long to be loved by other people. There are different kinds of love: romantic love, brotherly love, and unconditional love.
Unconditional love is the love that God has for us. This love that God shows us must be reciprocated towards the people around us. This agápe (unconditional) love that God shows us is something I want you to dwell on for a moment. You might be thinking that you have heard this all before in church, or that you are here at Simpson University and hear about God's love all the time. However, it is important from time to time to chew on this mind-blowing thought: the wonderful maker of everything loves you!
The God of the universe, who spoke the planets, stars, vegetation, and everything into being, cares about you! He decided to show His love for you in the greatest way possible: sending His only son to pay the price for you, dear reader! We were like poor weary souls in the in the shackles of sin in a tall tower where Satan was keeping us captive. Jesus came, defeated Satan, and freed us from sin and spiritual death. Wow! Although we ignore God and decide to disobey Him, He is always waiting for us with arms wide open. Nothing can keep us from God's incredible love. God shows us unconditional love in everyday of our lives! If God loves us this much, what should we do about it? We must share it! Show someone love today.
Maybe it's letting someone go in front of you in the lunch line, holding a door open for someone, being patient with someone who is hard to deal with, or even taking the time to listen to a friend who needs a listening ear. If God has shown us such incredible love, we need to share it with the world! I would like to leave you with this: God loves you and sees you of great worth in His sight!
