What does one do without a car? Well, one day, three adventurous college students without cars decided to find out. They started out on Shasta View Drive and headed towards Lema Ranch. On the way there, they brainstormed: they could start out small and take advantage of the Simpson campus! There was basketball in the backcourts, climbing on the rock wall, Frisbee or soccer in the fields, kite flying or ordering pizza while reading children's books (namely Dr. Seuss) in the library.

As inspiration grew, they added more organized events to their list: an all-campus card tournament, an all-campus game of sardines (a revised game of hide-and-seek), mud football, Capture the Flag, themed full-dorm movie nights, a massive game of ultimate ninja or a game potluck (a game night to which everyone attending contributes a board game). On a more spiritual note, they included impromptu, informal worship nights in the music room, which they planned would include musical talents of all kinds contributing together for the profit of those not musically talented.

For nature-lovers, they listed the newly discovered Back Forty, a rough and uncivilized 40 acres of Simpson property, in which there can be (relatively safe) camping, stargazing, cloud-watching or fort-building. By way of transportation off-campus, they got creative. There were all sorts of options, once they thought about it! Rollerblades, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, tricycles, unicycles.... If only Simpson owned horses.

Upon their arrival at Lema Ranch, they proceeded to climb a tree and take several Facebook pictures. Continuing on down the trail, they came upon beautiful scenery, birds, a lake, exploratory areas, a babbling brook and picturesque picnic places. They added these highly advisable locations to their inventory. Going through the trail, they not only got their exercise for the day, but discovered a world outside of the Simpson campus, a wonderful world of simple nature abounding with beauty. God is not only present on their Christian campus, but in the outdoors as well! Here they saw evidence of His exquisite ability to create gorgeous, scenic places, so as to remind them of His power.

On the way back, they considered continuing their trek to reach the Hearth Artisan Bakery, which is down the street from Simpson. However, the sun:had begun to set and the air to chill, and so instead of purchasing warm, freshly-made bread, they made their way back to the safe and welcoming dorms to order pizza ($20.44 for a size medium, from Pizza Guys, which delivers to the dorms).

Their night ended in one of the aforementioned: an impromptu worship session. All three college students agreed that it had been a Saturday well spent, proving that, yes, there is fun to be had even without a car.
