Conference play is now in full swing
for Simspon University's baseball team
and the men are anticipating a triumphant
season. Although they must often face their
opponents without much support from the
student body due to the lack of a home field on campus, the guys remain optimistic for this season.

The team currently holds a 1-6 record
in conference but still anticipates a winning season. When asked about his outlook for the season, freshman pitcher Josh Graves said, "I'm looking forward to the team growing in our relationships and our skills. I'm excited for the future because there is a lot of freshman
talent, but the upperclassmen are also
a key factor in producing wins."

Matty Alton, freshman catcher from
Chino Hills, Calif., had a similar outlook but also added, "The main thing is for everyone to step up their game and definitely build team chemistry."

In comparison to previous years, this
year's squad has both a stronger offense and defense, although the pitching squad is more of a finesse type this year according to head coach Rick Bosetti.

When asked about goals the team has for
this season, Bosetti said, "We would like to get over 20 wins if we can and I think it's well within our reach."

He also said his team will go as far as the
pitching will take them; as the old baseball saying goes, "good pitching always stops good hitting."

The team is currently waiting for their home stadium to be built here on campus, but as the economy goes, so goes the fundraising. The team still needs approximately $100,000 but has already raised an impressive $450,000 for
the project, according to Bosetti.

They hope to break ground on construction
of this new stadium this summer, as a home field will bring the advantage of much needed fan support, yet the completion of the construction will be determined by the funding.
